Certificate III in Individual Support qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

The following  employment pathways are available to learners who complete Certificate III in Individual Support:

  • Home Respite Care Worker

There are no pre-requisites or any other training package entry requirements for this course.

Students must satisfy the following age, English and Academic requirements:

  • Age: must be 17 years or over
  • Undertake Pre-Training Review
  • Undertake LLN and digital numeracy assessment: Learning, reading, writing, oral communication (ACSF Level 2+) and numeracy (ACSF Level 2) are desirable to participate in the course
  • Moderate level of computer literacy and has access to a computer with internet access

Delivery methods:
The range of delivery methods may include, but not limited to the following:

Delivery Structure:

  • Delivery structure is comprised of classroom training sessions, structured learning such as training support, learning activities, self-paced (to allow the learners to absorb and reflect on their learning), workshops and work placement.
  • The unit of competency will be delivered and assessed as stand-alone unit.

Additional locations may be allocated to meet a group of learner cohort’s needs and based on demand (if practicable for the RTO)

All assessment will be conducted in accordance with the Training Package requirements, Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence (https://www.asqa.gov.au/standards/chapter-4/clauses-1.8-1.12)

The purpose of the placement is to provide students with the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to a practical setting and to develop the necessary skills and attributes to work in the sector.

To achieve Certificate III in Individual Support qualification the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work placement as detailed in the assessment requirements of the units of competency. If a student is unable to find an appropriate work placement, Hammond Institute will assist in finding the work placement.

Able to obtain the following security checks prior to the start of work placement:

  • Valid Police Checks (with no disclosures)
  • Valid Working with the Children Check

It is important for students to remember that the placement component of the course is an integral part of their learning journey and will provide valuable experience and networking opportunities.

15 units are required for the award of Certificate III in Individual Support qualification including:
