Course Overview
Certificate III in Individual Support qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualized plan to provide person-centered support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centered support.

There are no pre-requisites or any other training package entry requirements for this course.
Students must satisfy the following age, English, and Academic requirements:
- Age: must be 17 years or over.
- Undertake Pre-Training Review.
- Undertake LLN and digital numeracy assessment: Learning, reading, writing, oral communication (ACSF Level 2+), and numeracy (ACSF Level 2) are desirable to participate in the course.
- Moderate level of computer literacy and has access to a computer with internet access.

Delivery methods:

Delivery Structure:
- The delivery structure is comprised of classroom training sessions, structured learning such as training support, learning activities, self-paced (to allow the learners to absorb and reflect on their learning), workshops, and work placement.
- The unit of competency will be delivered and assessed as a stand-alone unit.

All assessments will be conducted in accordance with the Training Package requirements, Principles of Assessment, and Rules of Evidence (https://www.asqa.gov.au/standards/chapter-4/clauses-1.8-1.12)
The purpose of the placement is to provide students with the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to a practical setting and to develop the necessary skills and attributes to work in the sector.
To achieve Certificate III in Individual Support qualification the candidate must have completed a minimum of 120 hours of supervised placement in direct support work is required. This placement should involve working with people who are aging and living in residential aged care, or with individuals living with a disability in supported accommodation.
Able to obtain the following security checks prior to the start of work placement:
- Valid Police Checks (with no disclosures)
- Valid Working with the Children Check
If a student is unable to find an appropriate work placement, Hammond Institute will assist in finding the work placement.
It is important for students to remember that the placement component of the course is an integral part of their learning journey and will provide valuable experience and networking opportunities.
