Course Overview

CHC43121 – Certificate IV in Disability Support course reflects the role of individuals in a range of community settings and peoples’ homes, who provide support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centered approach, work according to and may contribute to an individualized plan, and work without direct supervision. They may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

Entry Requirements

Completion of CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
OR
Completion of CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
OR
Completion of: CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability PLUS  the CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support Skill Set.

Students must satisfy the following age, English, and Academic requirements:

  • Age: must be 17 years or over.
  • Undertake Pre-Training Review.
  • Undertake LLN and digital numeracy assessment: Learning, reading, writing, oral communication, and numeracy (ACSF Level 3) are desirable to participate in the course.
  • Moderate level of computer literacy and has access to a computer/laptop/tablet/smartphone with internet access.

Delivery Details

Delivery methods:

The range of delivery methods may include, but is not limited to the following:

  • Guided facilitation of individual or group learning activities, group work or project-based case studies.

Delivery Structure:

  • The delivery structure is comprised of classroom training sessions, structured learning such as training support, learning activities, self-paced (to allow the learners to absorb and reflect on their learning), workshops, and work placement.
  • The unit of competency will be delivered and assessed as a stand-alone unit.

All assessments will be conducted in accordance with the Training Package requirements, Principles of Assessment, and Rules of Evidence (https://www.asqa.gov.au/standards/chapter-4/clauses-1.8-1.12)

Practical Placement Requirement

The purpose of the placement is to provide students with the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to a practical setting and to develop the necessary skills and attributes to work in the disability sector.

To achieve CHC43121 – Certificate IV in Disability Support qualification the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work placement as detailed in the assessment requirements of the units of competency. If a student is unable to find an appropriate work placement, Hammond Institute will assist in finding the work placement.

Able to obtain the following security checks prior to the start of work placement:

  • Valid Police Checks (with no disclosures)
  • Valid Working with the Children Check

It is important for students to remember that the placement component of the course is an integral part of their learning journey and will provide valuable experience and networking opportunities in the disability sector.

Unit of Competency

The CHC43121 – Certificate IV in Disability Support requires 10 units of Competency.
7 core units and 3 elective units.

  • CHCLEG003: Manage legal and ethical compliance
