CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services (Child Youth And Family Welfare) reflects the role of community services workers involved in the delivery, management and coordination of person-centred services to individuals, groups, and communities.At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously within their scope of practice under broad directions from senior management. Workers support people to make change in their lives to improve personal and social wellbeing and may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers. They may also undertake case management and program coordination.

There are NO previous work or education requirements for entry into this course. Students may enrol directly in the diploma level course without completing lower ranked qualifications.

Students must satisfy the following age, English and other requirements to enroll in the Diploma of Community Services (Child Youth And Family Welfare):

  • Age: must be 18 years or over
  • Undertake Pre-Training Review
  • Achieve satisfactory result of LLN Test including Learning (ACSF Level 4), Reading (ACSF Level 3), Writing (ACSF Level 3), Oral communication (ACSF Level 3) and Numeracy (ACSF Level 3)
  • It is also essential for the student to possess basic computer skills.

Skills First Funding for this course is exclusively accessible through traineeship.

Delivery methods:

Delivery Structure:

  • Delivery structure is comprised of classroom training sessions, structured learning such as training support, learning activities, self-paced (to allow the learners to absorb and reflect on their learning), workshops and work placement.
  • The unit of competency will be delivered and assessed as stand-alone unit.

All assessment will be conducted in accordance with the Training Package requirements, Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence (https://www.asqa.gov.au/standards/chapter-4/clauses-1.8-1.12)

The purpose of the placement is to provide students with the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to a practical setting and to develop the necessary skills and attributes to work in the sector.

To achieve the Diploma of Community Services (Child Youth And Family Welfare) qualification the candidate must have completed at least 200 hours of work placement as detailed in the assessment requirements of the units of competency.

If a student is unable to find an appropriate work placement, Hammond Institute will assist in finding the work placement.

Able to obtain the following security checks prior to the start of work placement:

  • Valid Police Checks (with no disclosures)
  • Valid Working with the Children Check

It is important for students to remember that the placement component of the course is an integral part of their learning journey and will provide valuable experience and networking opportunities in the sector.
