Course Overview
This skill set addresses the skills and knowledge required to work with basic information about the human body and prepare for and provide medication assistance and complete medication documentation. It also involves supporting a client to self-administer medication.
This skill set will provide individuals (who hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in an area) with the skills required to meet industry requirements for work in supporting a person to self-administer medication, involving provision of direct client care or support.

Students must satisfy the following age, English, and Academic requirements:
- Age: must be 17 years or over
- Undertake Pre-Training Review
- Achieve satisfactory result of LLN assessment: Learning, reading, writing, oral communication, and numeracy (ACSF Level 3) are desirable to participate in the course.
- Moderate level of digital literacy and has access to a computer with internet access.

Delivery methods:
The range of delivery methods may include, but is not limited to the following:

- Guided facilitation of individual or group learning activities, group work or project-based case studies.
Delivery Structure:
- The delivery structure is comprised of classroom training sessions, structured learning such as training support, learning activities, self-paced (to allow the learners to absorb and reflect on their learning), workshops, and work placement.
- The unit of competency will be delivered and assessed as a stand-alone unit.

These units provide credit towards a range of qualifications in the CHC Community Services Training Package or HLT Health Training Package at Certificate IV and Diploma level
Assessment methods may include:

- Written Assignment & Case Studies
- Projects / Research Reviews
All assessments will be conducted in accordance with the Training Package requirements, Principles of Assessment, and Rules of Evidence (https://www.asqa.gov.au/standards/chapter-4/clauses-1.8-1.12)
For unit HLTHPS006 – Assist clients with medication skills must have be demonstrated in the workplace.
Performance Evidence for HLTHPS006
The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has:
- Provided assistance with medication:
- To at least 5 different clients according to their care plans
- With at least 5 different types of medications
- Used at least 3 different modes of administration
- Consistently adhered to procedures and regulatory requirements for assisting with medication, including:
- Checked the care plan and confirming details
- Checked medication, including expiry dates and dosage instructions
- Confirmed client identity
- Calculated correct dosage
- Conducted pre and post administration client checks
- Cleaned equipment and disposed and stored medications according to organisation procedures completed accurate documentation
To be eligible for the award of a Statement of Attainment for the CHCSS00070 – Assist Clients with Medication Skill Set, participants must successfully complete two units comprising:
- Two (2) Core units
Where the full course is not completed, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for any completed unit/s.
- HLTAAP001: Recognise healthy body systems
- HLTHPS006: Assist clients with medication
