Course Overview

CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services (Child Youth And Family Welfare) reflects the role of community services workers involved in the delivery, management and coordination of person-centered services to individuals, groups, and communities. At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously within their scope of practice under broad directions from senior management. Workers support people to make change in their lives to improve personal and social wellbeing and may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers. They may also undertake case management and program coordination.

Admission & Entry Requirements

There are NO previous work or education requirements for entry into this course. Students may enroll directly in the diploma-level course without completing lower-ranked qualifications.

Graduates can expect higher course levels to result in higher potential salaries, positions, and skill capabilities.

Students must satisfy the following age, English, and Academic requirements:

  • Age: must be 18 years or over
  • Undertake Pre-Training Review
  • Undertake LLN and digital numeracy assessment: Learning, reading, writing, oral communication, and numeracy (ACSF Level 3) are desirable to participate in the course.
  • Moderate level of computer literacy and has access to a computer/laptop/tablet/smartphone with internet access

Delivery Details

Delivery methods:

The range of delivery methods may include, but is not limited to the following:

  • Guided facilitation of individual or group learning activities, group work or project-based case studies.

Delivery Structure:

  • The delivery structure is comprised of classroom training sessions, structured learning such as training support, learning activities, self-paced (to allow the learners to absorb and reflect on their learning), workshops, and work placement.
  • The unit of competency will be delivered and assessed as a stand-alone unit.

All assessments will be conducted in accordance with the Training Package requirements, Principles of Assessment, and Rules of Evidence (https://www.asqa.gov.au/standards/chapter-4/clauses-1.8-1.12)

Practical Placement Requirement

The purpose of the placement is to provide students with the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to a practical setting and to develop the necessary skills and attributes to work in the sector.

To achieve the Diploma of Community Services (Child Youth And Family Welfare) qualification the candidate must have completed at least 200 hours of work placement as detailed in the assessment requirements of the units of competency.

If a student is unable to find an appropriate work placement, Hammond Institute will assist in finding the work placement.

Able to obtain the following security checks before the start of work placement:

  • Valid Police Checks (with no disclosures)
  • Valid Working with the Children Check

Students need to remember that the placement component of the course is an integral part of their learning journey and will provide valuable experience and networking opportunities in the sector.

Unit of Competency

The Diploma of Community Services (Child Youth And Family Welfare, Case Management) is made up of 20 units. This covers 12 core units and 8 elective units.
