This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

There are NO previous work or education requirements for entry into this course. Students may enrol directly in the diploma level course without completing lower ranked qualifications.

Students must satisfy the following age, english and other requirements:
- Applicants are required to be 18 years old and above
- Undertake Pre-Training Review
- Undertake LLN test: Learning (ACSF Level 2), reading (ACSF Level 2), writing (ACSF Level 3), oral communication (ACSF Level 3) and numeracy (ACSF Level 2) are desirable to participate in the course
- Police Check – Students undertaking this course are required to provide a current Police Check with no disclosures.
- It is also essential for the student to possess basic computer skills.

Delivery Structure:
- Delivery structure is comprised of classroom training sessions, structured learning such as training support, learning activities, self-paced (to allow the learners to absorb and reflect on their learning), workshops and work placement.

All assessment will be conducted in accordance with the Training Package requirements, Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence (https://www.asqa.gov.au/standards/chapter-4/clauses-1.8-1.12)
To achieve this qualification the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work placement as detailed in the assessment requirements of the units of competency if a student is unable to find appropriate work placement, Hammond Institute will assist in finding the work placements.
