The CHCSS00125 – Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support is a skill set designed to provide foundational knowledge and skills for those looking to progress into the Certificate IV in Disability Support (CHC43121).

The skill set focuses on developing the following competencies:

  • Understanding and implementing person-centred support plans
  • Facilitating community participation and social inclusion for individuals with disabilities
  • Applying legal and ethical compliance in disability support settings
  • Enhancing communication skills to build relationships with clients and colleagues

Upon completion of the CHCSS00125 skill set, students are well-prepared to undertake the Certificate IV in Disability Support, which opens up various career opportunities such as:

  • Disability Support Worker
  • Personal Care Assistant
  • Community Support Worker
  • Residential Care Worker

These roles involve providing individualized support and fostering the well-being and independence of people with disabilities in various community and residential settings

Target Group
This skill set is for individuals who hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in Community Services, Health or a related field, work in disability support roles, and wish to gain entry to the Certificate IV in Disability Support.

Students must satisfy the following age, English, and Academic requirements:

  • Age: must be 17 years or over.
  • Undertake Pre-Training Review.
  • Undertake LLN and digital numeracy assessment: Learning, reading, writing, oral communication, and numeracy (ACSF Level 3) are desirable to participate in the course.
  • Moderate level of computer literacy and has access to a computer/laptop/tablet/smartphone with internet access.

Delivery methods:

The range of delivery methods may include, but is not limited to the following:

  • Lectures / Instructions
  • Pre-reading
  • Demonstrations and modeling
  • Practice opportunities
  • Brainstorming activities
  • Group discussions
  • Guided facilitation of individual or group learning activities, group work, or project-based case studies

Delivery Structure:

  • The delivery structure is comprised of classroom training sessions, structured learning such as training support, learning activities, self-paced (to allow the learners to absorb and reflect on their learning), workshops, and work placement.
  • The unit of competency will be delivered and assessed as a stand-alone unit.

Note:
Additional locations may be allocated to meet a group of learner cohort’s needs and based on demand (if practicable for the RTO)

Graduates of the CHCSS00125 skill set can progress to the CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support, which provides more advanced training and qualifications required for supervisory or specialized roles within the disability sector

All assessments will be conducted in accordance with the Training Package requirements, Principles of Assessment, and Rules of Evidence (https://www.asqa.gov.au/standards/chapter-4/clauses-1.8-1.12)

No placement hours are required.

Skills must have been demonstrated in the disabled workplace with the addition of simulations and scenarios where the full range of contexts and situations have not been provided in the workplace.

To be eligible for the award of a Statement of Attainment for the CHCSS00125 – Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support, participants must complete three units comprising:

  • Three (3) Core units

Where the full course is not completed, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for any completed unit/s.

  • CHCCCS041: Recognise healthy body systems
  • CHCDIS020: Work effectively in disability support
  • HLTINF006: Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control
